THE OPPORTUNITY: The Professor will provide outstanding academic and research leadership in the area of environmental management and nature conservation at the interface between science and policy, and promote the School within relevant academic and professional communities in Australia and internationally. The appointee will initiate and contribute to School and Faculty teaching, research and program development and entrepreneurial activity in the area of environmental management and nature conservation in complex ecological-political-social systems. The appointee will contribute to service activities locally and internationally, particularly in relation to student recruitment, and will champion the strategic directions of the School, the Faculty and the University.

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR: Providing academic leadership. Fostering interdisciplinary research activities that help understand complex ecological-political-social systems and applies that knowledge to improve nature conservation, and in so doing contributing to high-impact scholarly publication, the generation of research and commercial funding and the supervision of honours and postgraduate research students.
Developing and managing novel and targeted teaching programs at the interface of social, political and ecological systems, and making recommendations to the Head of School on matters of program and course development, maintenance and delivery to ensure curriculum quality and relevance.
Promoting the discipline of environmental management and nature conservation by forging strong relationships with professional groups, government and non-government organisations, overseas institutions, other academics, industry and the wider community.
Contributing to the ongoing development and administration of the School and Faculty, including undertaking significant line management responsibility for the area of environmental management and nature conservation in complex ecological-political-social systems.

ABOUT YOU: PhD in a relevant field.
Outstanding academic leadership and research expertise in the broad field of environmental science.
Proven record in developing and leading multi- and interdisciplinary research teams/programs in the areas of environmental management and nature conservation in complex ecological-political-social systems.
A sustained and outstanding track record of internationally recognised research and scholarly publications that helps understand complex ecological-political-social systems, with applications to environmental management, global change adaptation and/or nature conservation.
Proven success in securing significant competitive national, international and/or industry research grants including commercial research funding.
A proven record of attracting and successfully supervising Honours, Masters and PhD students.
Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of teaching programs at both unit and/or course levels within the area of environmental management, global change adaptation and/or nature conservation in complex ecological-political-social systems.
Strong professional networks in the broad field of environmental science and an understanding of the relevant industry workforce needs.
